Personal Details Name: Prof. Spyros A. Kazarlis Titles: Dipl. Eng. in Electrical & Computer Engineering (1990), PhD in Evolutionary Computation (1998). Current Position: He is a Full Professor at the Dept. of Informatics and Communications of the Technological Educational Institute of Serres, Greece, since Aug 12, 2010. He was firstly employed as an Assistant Professor in the same institution since 2002 and advanced to the position of Associate Professor in 2006. His teaching subject is “Computer Architecture”. He is also a professional Electrical Engineer and a professional Computer Analyst & Programmer. Administration: He is Head of the Section of “Computer Architecture & Industrial Applications” of the Department since 2005. He is a member of the Department’s Board since 2005. He is a board member of the Information and Communication Technologies Support Center of the TEI of Serres. He is a member of the Quality Assurance Unit of the TEI of Serres. Research Interests: Computer Architecture, Evolutionary Computation, Genetic Algorithms, Computational Intelligence, Machine Intelligence, Computer Programming, Object-oriented and Visual Programming, Micro-processors, Machine Languages, Operating Systems, Constrained Optimization, Scheduling and Timetabling. Memberships: He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece since 1990, a member of IEEE since 2007, a member of the IEEE Computer Society for 2 years, a member of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society for 2 years and a member of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society since 2007. He has also been a member of the Research Committee of EVONET (EVOlutionary computation NETwork of excellence) Studies Graduate Studies: Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering (1990) from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (Electronics and Computers Section) of the Polytechnic School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Scholarships: Scholarship of the National Scholarship Institution (IKY) for excellence in studies for the academic years 1985-1986 and 1986-1987. Degree thesis: Elaborated in the Automation & Robotics Lab of the Dept. of Electrical Eng. under the subject: “Autonomous Mobility of Robots”. PhD: At the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (Electronics and Computers Section) of the Polytechnic School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, (1998), in the field of “Evolutionary Computation”. PhD thesis title: “Application of Genetic Algorithms on Real-World Constrained Optimization Problems and the Varying Fitness Function Technique”. Other: Graduated from the School of Telecommunication Technicians (SETTIL) of the Greek Army (1995).
