Biographical Data

Hristos T. Anastassiu was born in Edessa, Greece on July 11, 1966. He received his basic education in Thessaloniki (Elementary School: 1972-1978, Secondary School: 1978-1981, High School: 1981-1984). After scoring excellent grades in the Panhellenic Examinations, he enrolled in the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1984. During his undergraduate studies he was consistently within the top 2% of his class, being honored by the National Fellowship for excellence in each academic year.  He completed a Diploma Thesis, supervised by Prof. Epaminondas. E. Kriezis and graduated in 1989 with Grade Point Average 9/10, third in his 120-student class, having been awarded twice the prize of the Technical Chamber of Greece.

In 1989 he enrolled in the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA, where he started his graduate studies as a Graduate Research Assistant at the ElectroScience Laboratory. His Major was Electromagnetics and his Minor was Communications.  He obtained the Master of Science degree, (M.Sc.) in 1992, after completing a thesis supervised by Prof. Prabhakar H. Pathak.

In 1992 he enrolled in the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA, again as a  Graduate Research Assistant at the Radiation Laboratory, with the same Major and Minor (Electromagnetics and Communications respectively). He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) in 1997, after completing a dissertation supervised by Prof.  John L. Volakis.

At the University of Michigan he was simultaneously registered in the Mathematics Department, where he obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in 1995.

He received the second place award at the student paper contest of the 1993 IEEE-AP (Antennas and Propagation) International Symposium held in Ann Arbor, MI.

In May 1997 he enlisted in the Hellenic Army, at the Artillery Training Center, Theba, Greece. He was transferred to the 193th Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Batallion at Eleftheroupolis, Greece. He completed his military service in May 1998.

From February 1999 to March 2002 he was a Junior Research Scientist at the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece. He was promoted to a Senior Research Scientist in 2002, a position he held until May 2004. From June 2004 to March 2011 he was affiliated with the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI), Electronics Engineering Directorate. In September 2005 he was also elected as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Hellenic Air Force Academy, where he taught Electromagnetics and Communications courses until 2010, in parallel with his work at HAI.   In March 2011 he became an Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics and Communication at the Technological and Educational Institute of Serres, Greece, (currently International Hellenic University) where he was promoted to the Professor position in June 2015.
